In Depth Interview with Dr. Willibrod Slaa - Feb 28, 2011

Tanzania’s main opposition party Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Democracy and Development Party - DDP) is carrying out what it termed as the “demonstrations and rallies against corruption in Tanzania”. According to Dr. Willibrod Slaa (in the picture addressing a rallyl in Shinyanga yesterday) the Secretary General of the party and former presidential candidate, the demonstrations are “a way to force the Tanzanian government to listen to the cries of the people and take immediate actions to resolve some of the issues that have made the life our people harder everyday”.

Dr. Slaa who came second in the last year’s election said that, “The government of President Kikwete has failed to deal with corruption, high level of inflation and in fact has become negligent of its responsibilities”. Speaking following massive demonstrations and rallies in Tanzania’s second largest city of Mwanza in the Northwestern part of the country, Dr. Slaa said that the demonstrations were just the beginning of something bigger if the Kikwete’s government will not take actions soon to deal with grand corruption in the country.
